RULES +++++++++++++++++++++++++ The following articles only
concern a championship with a maximum of 30 competitors. For more than 30 competitors
another set of rules is described in the following chapter.
1.1.
Clothing should be
made of material resistant to 800N. An undergarment consisting of a protective plastron is
also required. The mask bib must be made of material resistant to
1600N. 1.2.
Fencers must wear: -
Either an armband in
the national colours -
or the symbol
specified for clothing at the F.I.E. World Championships. 1.3.
For each weapon, the
event will take place over 5 (five) hits within a time limit of 3
minutes. If at the end of
the regulation time the score is equal and before an extra minute has
been allocated to decide between the two fencers by the first decisive
hit, the referee shall draw lots to decide the winner, should the score
remain equal after this extra minute. 1.4.
**Each nation has
the right to enter a team. However,
the organizing nation will be allowed to enter two teams. A team must start the championship with three fencers. When a participant is forced to abandon due to an
accident recognized by the referee, following medical advice, he may be
replaced by another fencer from his delegation also included in another
weapon. The replacement may be made either during the bout, the
score obtained remaining the same, or after the bout. Neither the fencer replaced nor the replacement may
take any further part in the individual category. To establish the individual ranking, the results of the
abandoning fencer or the replacement are not taken into account.
In the case of a fencer abandoning and not being replaced, the
subsequent results are to be counted as 5/0 defeats. The team having made replacement participates in the
team ranking as if it competed in the event with its original three
fencers. A team, which does not have a replacement, may,
however, continue to participate in the team ranking with two fencers. A team reduced to one fencer may no longer participate
in the team ranking. All
bouts preceding the abandonment of the second fencer are also annulled. 1.5.
During the
preliminary delegation leaders meeting, an order number will designate
each national team of three fencers, which may be different for each
weapon. Any country not having a complete team of three fencers
may enter 1 or 2 individual fencers.
They will be put into groups of three. If one or two fencers remain isolated after the
formation of the groups, they will be considered as a group. Within each national team or group, the fencers are
referred to with a number in Arabic numerals from 1 to 3 or from 4 to 6.
That number is set for the whole event.
A replacement will automatically take the number of the fencer
who abandons. 1.6.
For the successive
rounds the Directoire Technique will establish a table of matches.
It varies according to the number of teams or groups entered. 1.7.
If possible, the
Directoire Technique will try to arrange the teams so that the last
round will be the match which decides the winner. 1.8.
If a team has only
one or two fencers, the regulation time (3 minutes) between successive
bouts must be respected unless otherwise notified by the fencers. 1.9.
The Directoire
Technique may split the last one or two bouts of a round on several
tracks when the number of remaining matches would cause a delay in the
timetable.
2.1.
Whatever the number
of teams, no more than 10 rounds take place on any one day.
However, where there would be no more than one extra round to
complete the competition, this last round and any barrage(s) will be
fought on the same day. 2.2.
The recommended and
ideal timetable will be as follows:
08.15 or 13.45: Registration of officials and
competitors
08.30 or 14.00: Start of competition
09.30, 10.30, 11.30: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
rounds
12.30 to 14.00: Break
14.00: Restart of the rounds
Prize presentation takes place 15 minutes after the end of the
final round.
The final timetable of the championships will be given to each
delegation
on the day of their arrival.
Each
nation will arrange to provide one competent referee if it enters at
least 3
teams, 2 referees if it enters 6 teams.
These must be notified to the organizing
country at the time of entry together with the preferred weapon.
The organizing nation should arrange to supply the missing
referees so that the
championships proceed properly and without an overload of work.
The functions of the referee are defined in the F.I.E. rules.
Before each round, the Directoire Technique will draw lots (in
the presence of teams
captains ) for top or bottom half (i.e. numbers 1-3 or 4-6).
The order of bouts is as follows:
3 – 6
1 – 5
2 – 4
1 – 6
3 – 4
2 – 5
1 – 4
2 – 6
3
– 5
All bouts must be fought.
During the first round, the fencers of the same team must meet in
the following way:
1 – 2 4
– 5
3 (6) versus the loser
3 (6) versus the winner of the first bout
The winner is the fencer who has the highest total of individual
victories.
A barrage must take place in the case of equal victories for
first place. In the case of
a tie after the barrage, another barrage will take place by direct
elimination but for 5 hits and in 3 minutes, the order of fights being
decided by the ranking after the unique poule, without counting the
first barrage.
In the case of tie for other places, the indicator HS – HR
decides the place. In the
case of further tie it is the number of hits scored which will decide
priority. In the case of a
tie in both HS – HR indicator and hits scored, the fencers will be
placed equal.
Each fencer receives a number of points equivalent to the place
he occupies in
the individual ranking.
The winner of the combined event is the fencer who has the least
number of
points over the three weapons.
The other places are awarded in order of increasing
points.
In the case of a tie in points, the individual ranking in the
….
weapon
determines the final ranking.
Each team match gives two points to the winner, except when a
team is made
up of fencers of different nationalities.
The winner of the team category is the nation which has the most
points. In
the case of a tie in points, the number of individual victories
will decide (in matches
which count). In the
case of further tie the indicator HS – HR decides the place.
A
Nations’ Trophy is intended to reward the nation which achieves the
overall
best results in the 6 weapons, individual and teams.
This trophy is given in competition at each World Championship.
The holder
of the trophy is charged with having its name and the year
engraved on it and
ensuring that it reaches the organizers at least 2 months before
the start of the
championships.
The trophy will be awarded to the country having scored the
highest number
of points according to the following system of counting:
For the individual events at each weapon
------------------------------------------------------------------
For the team events at each weapon
----------------------------------------------------------------------
** The original
numbering sequence goes wrong at this point.
(There are two paragraphs 1.3.).
I have used the “correct” numbering sequence, simply because
it was easier to let Word number them automatically.
